COLUMBUS, Ohio: One of our alert staffers received a call to action in her email Wednesday from the Ohio PIRG. It was a call for action to support the government takeover of healthcare. We wondered why an apparently government funded organization would be lobbying taxpayers for the expansion of big government (silly us). Never having heard of the OH PIRG we did a little digging.

The letter we received from Meshawn Ayala (here) suggests that citizens of Ohio donate to a fund to persuade 6 members of congress to vote for the public option. That none of the 6 represent Ohio is irrelevant, apparently. The fundraising purportedly is aimed at small businesses:

Why focus on small businesses? Business owners know first hand that competition brings down costs. That’s why so many small business owners have joined us in supporting the public option: It will help bring lower costs and better choices to them and their employees. Meshawn Ayala, Ohio PIRG Citizen Outreach Director.

Disinformation at its finest. With the government taking over healthcare, private businesses will not be able to compete. (“Citizen Outreach Director.” Hmm… is that from 1984 or was it Animal Farm, Brave New World… ?)

The Ohio PIRG is a branch of the US PIRG. The OH website is a clone of the US PIRG. Their slogan is “Standing Up To Powerful Interests.” In this Orwellian world that we live in apparently this means “Standing Up to Private Enterprise and Supporting Big Brother.”

So how does the US PIRG get its support? From you of course, by force. (Think taxes.) Guidestar.org reports the 2008 IRS 990 form of the PIRG’s “Reeducation” division. (Think propaganda.) An examination of their 990 shows this division derives its funding totally from government grants. (Think freeloaders.)

So let’s get this straight: Big government takes money from you by force (taxes). They use it to fund lobbyists whose purpose is to oppose private enterprise, support Big Brother, and persuade you to send them even more money in contributions. When they get that money from dopey citizens they spend it pressuring congress to expand government further, so that government can squeeze more money out of you.

Didn’t we prove already that socialism is a failure? Doesn’t anyone remember the U.S.S.R.? Cuba? Apparently the Soviets migrated to America and are working feverishly to impose their dogma here. We wonder if they have Russian neighborhoods in Columbus. Welcome to 1984.
