Hello Federal Healthcare, Goodbye Doctors
WASHINGTON: As mentioned previously by the NIP, legislators are banking on doctors doing what they are told. This is not just a gross miscalculation, but is a patent misrepresentation. Pelosi and Reid know fully well that if federal healthcare is passed doctors will quit practicing in droves.
Investors Business Daily/TIPP polls are renowned for their accuracy. In September IBD/TIPP polled doctors to evaluate their level of support for Obamacare.
Contrary to administration claims, there is substantial resistance among practicing physicians to the federalized healthcare proposals being considered. A striking finding is that 45% of doctors polled will consider leaving medicine if the proposal is enacted. Here are some key findings according to Terry Jones of IBD:
Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted…
Two-thirds, or 65%, of doctors say they oppose the proposed government expansion plan. This contradicts the administration’s claims that doctors are part of an “unprecedented coalition” supporting a medical overhaul…
Four of nine doctors, or 45%, said they “would consider leaving their practice or taking an early retirement” if Congress passes the plan the Democratic majority and White House have in mind. Terry Jones, Investors Business Daily
Physicians will view federal intrusion in the doctor/patient relationship as a violation of their Hippocratic oath. Doctors did not go to medical school for ten-plus years to be told by politicians how to treat patients. They resent insurance companies doing that already, and will loathe politicians doing the same. Nor did young professionals enter into medicine to serve some socialist vision of healthcare utopia, propelled by the partisan politics of Pelosi power mongering.
Again, this entire debate is not about enhancing healthcare. If it were, surely legislators would provide copious amounts of time to consult with practicing physicians before constructing any overhaul plan. There would be transparency, with adequate time to hear from all affected parties. The administration would do well to consider the NIP’s article on How Aussies Do Healthcare.
Again, we assert that this debate is not an honest one. It is about Reid, Pelosi, and the Obama administration grabbing power over one sixth of our economy. It is not about healthcare.
