Obama’s Offer Accepted by Iran, 10 New Reactors
TEHRAN: For all those skeptics out there who cling to the worn-out rhetoric of days past need to learn a lesson from Barack Hussein Obama on how negotiation is done. We finally have objective proof of the wisdom of prudent negotiation as opposed to cowboy diplomacy. Last March President Obama celebrated the Iranian holiday Nowruz, marking the arrival of spring and the beginning of the year in the Iranian calendar. Obama sensitively offered a new beginning to Iran. His full video is below, but here are some highlights:
THE PRESIDENT: Today I want to extend my very best wishes to all who are celebrating Nowruz around the world…
In particular, I would like to speak directly to the people and leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Nowruz is just one part of your great and celebrated culture. Over many centuries your art, your music, literature and innovation have made the world a better and more beautiful place….
We know that you are a great civilization, and your accomplishments have earned the respect of the United States and the world.
For nearly three decades relations between our nations have been strained. But at this holiday we are reminded of the common humanity that binds us together. Indeed, you will be celebrating your New Year in much the same way that we Americans mark our holidays — by gathering with friends and family, exchanging gifts and stories, and looking to the future with a renewed sense of hope….
So in this season of new beginnings I would like to speak clearly to Iran’s leaders. We have serious differences that have grown over time. My administration is now committed to diplomacy that addresses the full range of issues before us, and to pursuing constructive ties among the United States, Iran and the international community. This process will not be advanced by threats. We seek instead engagement that is honest and grounded in mutual respect.
The United States wants the Islamic Republic of Iran to take its rightful place in the community of nations….
With the coming of a new season, we’re reminded of this precious humanity that we all share. And we can once again call upon this spirit as we seek the promise of a new beginning.
Thank you, and Eid-eh Shoma Mobarak.
The NIP’s woeful budget unfortunately does not allow for staff translators. So we have embedded the full video, with Farsi subtitles in the hope that some of our readers can help. We think there must have been some sort of translation error. We’re not sure, but we don’t think that the President’s offer for “a new beginning” meant beginning construction on TEN NEW REACTOR SITES.
Yes, Iran announced today:
Iran plans to build ten new uranium enrichment plants in a gesture of defiance to the West.
The escalation of its nuclear programme was announced yesterday, two days after world powers ordered Iran to halt construction of a plant near Qom and to adhere immediately to five United Nations resolutions demanding it stop uranium enrichment. From The Times, November 30, 2009
Who in his right mind would think that the video below would be effective in deterring Iran from its nuclear objectives? Isn’t it obvious that Barack Hussein Obama’s intention from the start was to delay any real deterrent in order to buy time for Iran to “take their rightful place in the community of nations” and join the nuclear community? Talk about community organizing!
