Failed Bomber Warns More to Follow

Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, Terrorist's Father

Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, Terrorist's Father

ABUJAH, Nigeria: Just three days after his arrest for his failed bomb attempt on the NWA flight to Detroit the terrorist has warned that others will follow. According to the Nigerian Compass News:

Abdul Farouk Mutallab has declared that even if he is prosecuted and jailed, other trained terrorists would finish the job very soon. “I am one from a production line of terrorists that has been trained in Yemen by al-Qaeda,” he said…

The foiled attack came four days after a video was posted on extremist websites showing an al-Qaeda militant in Yemen warning: “We are carrying a bomb to hit the enemies of God.”…

More disturbing is the apparent failure of U.S. authorities to respond swiftly and seriously to warnings by Mr. Abdulmutallab’s father about his son’s “radicalisation and associations” with Islamist extremists.

As the recently retired chairman of a major Nigerian bank, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab was a credible source; his alert to Nigerian and U.S. Embassy officials in Lagos about his son’s increasingly militant views should have been enough to prompt an immediate review of Mr. Mutallab’s multiple-entry visa and, at a minimum, to have him flagged for extra security precautions.

The notion that there was “insufficient derogatory information available” to do more than add Mr. Abdulmutallab’s name to a broad terror watch list, as the (Obama) administration suggested, is infuriating. This was not an American citizen entitled to due-process protections and the right to enter the country at will.

How much more derogatory does information have to be than a father’s warning that his son is dabbling in radical Islam?  Nigerian Compass News

The usual excuse for these terrorists is that they come from extreme poverty and these young people are somehow duped into suiciding bombing with offers to send money to their families. Such a viewpoint is not justified as it turns out. These attacks are ideologically driven. Abdul Farouk Mutallab was the son of a rich Nigerian banker who lived a life of luxury:

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab lived a life of extraordinary privilege before he turned to terror. The son of a wealthy Nigerian banker, Abdulmutallab was educated at top schools in Africa and Britain – and dwelled in homes worth millions, his relatives said. The baby-faced extremist’s last known address was a $4 million flat in one of London’s poshest neighborhoods. This administration has banned the use of the term, “War on Terror.” It refuses to acknowledge the role of radical Islam in terrorist attacks throughout the world. Obama may declare that the war is over, but Muslim extremists surely have not.

It took three days for Obama to even acknowledge that the attack had taken place. During his press conference he never used the term “radical Islam,” and the brevity of his address was matched by his casual dress. Just like the Ft. Hood massacre, Islam ties are ignored and the organization of terrorist networks discounted. This administration tries to sanitize the attack with specious news conferences like Napolitano’s assurance “The System Worked.” This goes beyond prevarication, this amounts to propaganda. Welcome to change we can believe in.
