DETROIT: Christmas day’s terrorist attack by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab represents a colossal failure of intelligence and airline security forces. US media downplay the incident, but overseas headlines read  ”Detroit terror attack is a major intelligence and security failure.“ The US embassy was warned by the young man’s own father, he was on a watch list and his multiple-entry US visa was renewed even though the British revoked their visa. He purchased his one-way ticket with cash. The flight originated from Nigeria, he boarded with no passport, no checked baggage but with explosive chemicals. Yet in spite of all of this Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano assures us, “the system worked.” Is this a new system you have instituted Ms. Napolitano? Now we’re on our own. You let the terrorists board and leave it up to us passengers to defend ourselves? And this is change we can believe in?
