Mayor Sheila Dixon Resigns But Doesn’t Apologize for Theft

Mayor Sheila Dixon Resigns in DisgraceBALTIMORE: Today Mayor Sheila Dixon resigned, a month after her conviction for embezzling gift cards meant for the poor and needy families of Baltimore. It seems to be a theme with those on the left that while they talk a big game when it comes to helping the disadvantaged, they have little compunction when it comes to ripping those same people off.

After more than four years of investigation, and a month after a guilty verdict in the first corruption trial against her, Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors Wednesday in which she pledged to resign from office…

Last month, in a separate trial, a jury convicted the mayor of taking for her own use gift cards donated for the city’s poor.

Under Wednesday’s agreement, prosecutors asked the court to strike last month’s guilty verdict and give Dixon probation before judgment – a legal status that means the mayor does not have a criminal conviction. She will serve no jail time, keep her $83,000 a year pension and after two years will be able to run again for office.  Christian Science Monitor

The NIP wonders if a conservative had been guilty of such egregious conduct whether he would have his record expunged, receive $83,000 per year for the rest of his life, and be able to run again for office in two years.

Throughout our country in big cities like Detroit, Baltimore, and Washington, liberals are elected on the basis of their professed compassion. When it comes time to reform schools, provide quality education for their constituents, to support marriage, stamp out rampant illegitimacy, and curb drug use, these leaders are missing in action.

Mayor Sheila Dixon’s actions were reprehensible. Imagine stealing from the poor unfortunates whom she serves. Her odious conduct should be offensive to all of her constituents. Her announcement came in front of cameras, naturally. During the press conference she completely side-stepped the issue of her despicable conduct. She somehow has gotten religion to help her through these trying days, and courageously asserts “my journey will continue.” We have no doubt about that, as her journey will probably be financed with stolen gas cards. (As if she needs them with the big fat paycheck she will continue to receive from the city.)

When the press conference opened for questions the first one was, “Do you owe the city an apology?” To which she replied,

Well, what I owe is, I owe, when you say an apology, I, what I owe, the citizens is, to move on, bring closure to this, so we can continue to stay focused on the city.

Does that sound like an apology to you?

“Well, what I owe is, I owe, when you say an apology, I, what I owe, the citizens is, to move on…”

Movin’ on up…. Wow – the product of advanced education, no doubt…. It will take a while to decipher this.
