Anyone needing proof that fanaticism for gun control hasn’t waned on Capitol Hill, that anti-gunners are — as Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) put it last year — only waiting to “pick the time,” should watch the video of Mexican president Felipe Calderon’s speech to Congress last week, versions of which have been posted on youtube.com. When Calderon asked that the federal “assault weapon” ban be re-imposed, a very large number of U.S. Representatives and Senators present gave him a standing ovation.
However, on Monday the FBI released crime statistics that should cause the applauding anti-gunners to sit on their hands. The statistics indicate that between 2008 and 2009, as gun sales soared, the number of murders in our country decreased 7.2 percent. That amounts to about an 8.2 percent decrease in the per capita murder rate, after the increase in our nation’s legal and illegal population is taken into account. And it translates into about a 10.5 percent decrease in the murder rate between 2004, when the ban expired, and the end of 2009. And finally, it means that in 2009 our nation’s murder rate fell to a 45-year low.
If you have a desire to protect your 2nd amendment rights you need to do all you can to oust those from office who seek to take them away from you, like Dianne Feinstein:
JAMES SIMPSON: Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media and America’s Survival has a post at News With Views about Rand Paul’s now infamous gaffes on the Rachel Maddow Show. In it he warns that some of Rand’s libertarian views could put him at odds with conservatives on a variety of issues and open him to criticism from all sides.
According to Kincaid, “The libertarian movement was the product of seminars held by the far-left Institute for Policy Studies back in the 1960s and 70s.” And while libertarians are good on fiscal matters, because they believe in limited government, their isolationist positions on national defense, if adopted, would provide opportunities for our enemies to flourish and grow in the vacuum created by our absence.
Furthermore their particular views of limited government lead them to support legalization of marijuana, gay marriage and other positions that are anathema to conservatives. In the case with Maddow, Paul was painted into a corner by his own libertarian philosophy, which implies that government should not be able to regulate how private parties decide to conduct business at all, even if it means allowing them to engage in discrimination.
Whoops. Paul has since tried to clarify his position on this, but that doesn’t matter to the left. They got what they wanted.
Now, the media has no problem with racists like the New Black Panther Party intimidating voters at the voting booth. They have no problem with these people being shielded by a sympathetic Attorney General who committed a shocking travesty by dismissing charges against the Black Panthers after they had already lost in court. They have no problem with black-only or women-only clubs. They have no problem with all forms of reverse discrimination.
This is academic because it harmonizes with the radical left’s agenda to divide and conquer America’s majority, which just happens coincidentally to be largely white, although their real targets are not whites per se, but rather traditional, conservative Americans of any color.
Israel Prepares for Chemical Attack (Xinhua/Reuters)
TEL AVIV: Just hours ago Israel initiated a country-wide defense drill to prepare for nuclear, chemical and biological attacks from Iran and other hostile countries. Iran has declared its intention to “wipe Israel off the map.” The Iranian-funded Hezbollah has stocked more than 40,000 rockets capable of hitting Israel, some capable of carrying nuclear, chemical and biological payloads.
Today Israeli businesses, schools, hospitals, government offices and citizens took part in the nationwide drill:
Hundreds of Thousands of Israelis came to standstill at 11 a.m. local time (0900 GMT) on Wednesday and took shelter in fortified safe rooms when air sirens wail across the country as the culmination of a nationwide civil defense exercise…
Starting on Sunday, the five-day massive drill aimed at preparing army, local authorities and civilians for possible missile and rocket attacks on Israel, as well as natural disasters, according to the statement.
This year’s exercise simulates emergency scenarios, including missile and rocket attacks as well as strikes by unconventional weapons, to test the preparedness of the local authorities and the cooperation between different crews during such scenarios, the statement added. Xinhua News
While Israel prepares to defend itself, Obama feels that his contribution to the safety of the region is to prohibit Israeli development in Israel’s own capitol and to send an annual wish to the Iranian people wishing them a Happy Nowruz. Obama apparently accepts the inevitability of a nuclear Iran.
The left views Obama’s peacemaking as enlightened and progressing to a new world order where common sense prevails. Supposedly this will prepare the human race to evolve into a more advanced civilization. Such a viewpoint is not only at odds the history of our species but probably contrary to natural law. Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking warned that faith in the benevolence of aliens is naive. The NIP thinks that Obama’s faith in the rationality of the Iranians is either naive or simply an indication of his support of a nuclear Iran.
WASHINGTON: On Thursday, Felipe Calderon, the president of Mexico, where prohibitive gun laws prevent good people from having firearms for protection against criminals and governments of dubious legitimacy (historically the norm in Mexico), encouraged Congress to reinstate the federal “assault weapon” ban. With a warning seemingly designed to appeal to those who believe that speaking out against the Obama Administration’s policies are one step short of sedition or worse, Calderon said, “[I]f you do not regulate the sale of these weapons in the right way, nothing guarantees that criminals here in the United States with access to the same power of weapons will not decide to challenge American authorities and civilians.”
Calderon also misinformed Congress, claiming that violence in Mexico rose significantly after the U.S. ban expired in 2004. In fact, Mexico’s murder rate has been stable since 2003 and remains well below rates recorded previously. However, he did not explain why violent crime has declined significantly in the U.S. since the ban expired, or how a ban on flash suppressors and bayonet mounts relates to drug thugs in Mexico or anywhere else.
Notwithstanding the Washington Post’s judgment that Calderon “made a powerful case,” we suspect his speech fell on mostly deaf ears in Congress and in Arizona, which he inappropriately criticized for having an illegal immigration enforcement law that is similar to Mexico’s. But it had some effect, however. New York Democrat Rep. Carolyn McCarthy issued a statement incorrectly claiming that she has repeatedly introduced legislation to “reinstate” the ban. She has repeatedly introduced legislation, of course, but not to reinstate the ban. Rather, her bills have proposed to apply the “assault weapon” label to far more firearms than were covered by the expired ban, including the M1 Garand service rifle, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22, and any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle a future attorney general might claim is not “sporting.”
REDSTATE.COM: Last Thursday RedState.com published Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan’s senior thesis, which was subsequently pulled due to White House pressure. Since Kagan has no judicial experience there is very little in the public domain to study in order to glean insight into how she would approach many of the issues likely to confront the court in upcoming cases. Press access to Elena Kagan herself has also been prohibited, the White House only allowing the press to view a video the White House staff produced. The video purports to be an interview but is just a PR piece put together to resemble what a real interview would look like.
Kagan’s Princeton thesis reveals that this nominee is one more Socialist that Obama is foisting upon the American people:
Through its own internal feuding, then, the Socialist Party exhausted itself forever and further reduced labor radicalism in New York to the position of marginality and insignificance from which it has never recovered. The story is a sad but also a chastening one for those who, more than half a century after socialism’s decline, still wish to change America. Radicals have often succumbed to the devastating bane of sectarianism; it is easier, after all, to fight one’s fellows than it is to battle an entrenched and powerful foe. Yet if the history of Local New York shows anything, it is that American radicals cannot afford to become their own worst enemies. In unity lies their only hope. Elena Kagan’s Princeton Thesis
“Sad but also chastening” in Kagan’s mind because the Socialist Party did not succeed in their quest “to change America” in the early 20th century. The “unity that lies their only hope” has finally arrived in the 21st century in the incarnation of the Obama administration. The “entrenched and powerful foe” Kagan mentions is you, if you are in favor of freedom and capitalism
Here we have one more academic radical Marxist who in addition to never working in the private sector has never had any judicial experience. Obama wants to pack the Supreme Court with this 50 year old whose Socialist agenda will impact court decisions for generations.
HARTFORD: CT: The NY Times reported yesterday that Richard Blumenthal, Attorney General of Connecticut and candidate for the US Senate has been lying about his military record:
“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”
There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records. Raymond Hernandez, New York Times
So he brags about his service in Vietnam, although he has never been near the place. Politics as usual, Blumenthal says anything to anybody to get elected. Aren’t you tired of this kind of disgusting politician?
This guy has no business even being Connecticut Attorney General, much less being a US Senator. It’s time we send a clear message to all politicians: “You lie, you’re history.”
WASHINGTON: Just a reminder, Eric Holder is Attorney General of the United States. He is in charge of keeping us safe. In testimony before the House Judiciary Committee he refuses to even say the words “Radical Islam.” Hearing Holder dissemble and evade the question gives substantive insight into the mindset of this administration. It is clear that in this administration’s view not only are we not at war with terror, but there is no such thing as “Radical Islam.”
