Stupak Caves on Abortion, Clearing Way for Healthcare

March 21st, 2010 No comments

Stupak Caves on AbortionWASHINGTON: Today Bart Stupak caved on his insistence that the Healthcare bill include provisions in the Hyde Amendment blocking federal funds from being used for abortion. Back in September he cockily asserted he couldn’t be bought:

Pro-life Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak has said he can block proposed health care reform legislation unless House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) allows a vote on a Hyde Amendment to the bill.

The Hyde Amendment, named after the late U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL) prohibits taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortions. The current health care bill, H.R. 3200, is under fire for measures that allow federal funds to circumvent the Hyde Amendment and also mandate insurance coverage of abortion.

Rep. Stupak of Michigan claimed he has as many as 39 Democratic allies who could join Republicans to block the complete legislation from coming to a vote unless the House leadership allows a vote on a Hyde Amendment.

“If you don’t give us a vote, everything is off the table,” he said in an interview with CBN. He added that he didn’t want any “backdoor policies” on abortion. Catholic News Agency

Today Stupak sounded disingenuous when he insisted that Obama has promised an executive order banning federal funds being used for abortion. He’s prevaricating, plain and simple. Here’s why:

  1. Obama hasn’t signed the order, and once the vote is taken there is no provision to force Obama to do so.
  2. The executive order added nothing to the bill.
  3. Executive orders are meaningless in light of federal statute. Even if Obama does sign such an order it will have no impact.
  4. If this isn’t a “backdoor policy” on abortion, then nothing could be.
  5. No pro-abortion proponents objected to Stupak’s so-called “deal.” If the executive order would have any impact the pro-abortionists would surely have objected.
  6. $700,000 in federally funded airport improvements in his home district were announced on Friday. What other payoffs did he receive for sacrificing America’s unborn?

Stupak caved, and today he sounded like every other Congressman who protests like Mary Landrieu, “I can’t be bought.

Healthcare Game NOT over

March 21st, 2010 No comments

James SimpsonJAMES SIMPSON: We may yet do it. This game is not over and if you live in the DC area go to Capitol Hill today to voice your opposition to the healthcare bill. If you live elsewhere, continue calling, faxing and e-mailing. The latest whip count from Firedoglake puts the bill here:

About 10,000 people came to the Hill on Saturday for the Code Red rally according to those who attended. (I did not get down until later in the evening). Some friends attended a second, impromptu rally on the Capitol steps with a number of Congressmen for a few hours in the evening. Their advice for Sunday (today) was: show up! Members of Congress were shocked at the size of Saturday’s impromptu rally and it had an impact. They say do not let up. We should continue calling, faxing and e-mailing.

The schedule for today is as follows:

At 11 am there will be a church service in the Capitol Rotunda. This is the first church service held there in 100 years. House floor proceedings will begin at 1pm and the vote is at 2pm (as of now.)

I sat in the House gallery last night until almost midnight. A number of Republican members had stepped up to the podium and the last hour was taken by Louie Gohmert. He was clearly tired but made a last minute impassioned plea to the Democrats to forego this destructive legislation.

Who knows, some may listen…

Slaughter Rule Used by Dems to Pass Healthcare Without Voting

March 18th, 2010 No comments

James SimpsonJAMES SIMPSON: Never in the field of American politics has so much cowardice, hypocrisy and criminal fraud existed among the entire Congressional delegation of one Party. Never! News just arrived that House Democrats have voted in favor of the “Slaughter Rule” which they will use to “deem” the objectionable Senate healthcare bill passed without any of them having to actually vote on it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made clear her reason for wanting to use this mechanism a couple of days ago when she said: “I like it, because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.” Incredible. You want to bypass the democratic process, just make up a rule!

How mind bogglingly corrupt and arrogant can a person be? Each time you think Pelosi can sink no further, she effortlessly pulls it off. This has even shocked some liberals. For example, CNN’s Jack Cafferty called Pelosi “beyond sleazy” for endorsing the Slaughter Rule, saying “this reeks!” and labeling the process “simply unbelievable.” Read more…

Healthcare for Illegal Aliens – Wilson Was Right

January 6th, 2010 No comments

WASHINGTON: There are many who are digging into H.R. 3200, “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.” (You can download entire bill here by right-clicking and save to disk. If you click directly on the link it may crash your browser.)

H.R. 3200 has a very interesting statement of purpose:

A BILL

To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE; TABLE OF DIVISIONS, TITLES, AND SUBTITLES.

SHORT TITLE.—This Act may be cited as the ‘‘America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009’’.

We wonder what those “other purposes” are? Could those purposes have something to do with Congress establishing control not only over 1/6 of our economy but over the very lives of every American?

It looks to us like Joe Wilson was right that illegal aliens will be covered under the plan, according to section 152. Section 152 prohibits discrimination in health care, “without regard to personal characteristics.” By giving illegals health care would one of those “other purposes” be to gain support among illegal aliens for Democrats? Hello Federal Healthcare, Goodbye Doctors

November 4th, 2009 No comments

Hello Federal Healthcare, Goodbye DoctorsWASHINGTON: As mentioned previously by the NIP, legislators are banking on doctors doing what they are told. This is not just a gross miscalculation, but is a patent misrepresentation. Pelosi and Reid know fully well that if federal healthcare is passed doctors will quit practicing in droves.

Investors Business Daily/TIPP polls are renowned for their accuracy. In September IBD/TIPP polled doctors to evaluate their level of support for Obamacare.

Contrary to administration claims, there is substantial resistance among practicing physicians to the federalized healthcare proposals being considered. A striking finding is that 45% of doctors polled will consider leaving medicine if the proposal is enacted. Here are some key findings according to Terry Jones of IBD:

Healthcare Down Under

October 12th, 2009 2 comments

Australian HealthcarePERTH, Western Australia: There are more choices for Americans to consider in health care than the plans offered by the US, Canada, and Great Britain. As a practicing physician in Australia with over 20 years experience I thought your readers at the NIP would be interested in healthcare down under.

Australian citizens each have a medicare number which gives them free medical coverage in Australia and overseas in countries with reprical agreements. You can attend any General Practitioner of your choice, as often as you want. The vast majority of medicines are subsidised by the Government to a max cost to the patient of around $30 AUD. After you have spent around $800 in a year on pharmaceuticals, you’re covered by a safety net and it’s free after that until the end of the year. Read more…

Democratic Voter Fraud in Full Swing

November 1st, 2010 No comments

Voter Fraud in Full SwingAs the NIP has reported the Democrats have a long history of relying on voter fraud, and we expect this election to dramatically escalate.  Earlier this year after a whistleblower reported possible electronic manipulation 10,000 voting machines burned up in a warehouse in Texas before they could be examined.

In the 2008 election 43,000 false registrations were manufactured by ACORN enabling Al Franken to win by only 225 votes, thereby giving control of the Senate to Democrats and paving the way to socialist takeover of American healthcare.

Already in this election we are seeing signs of massive voter fraud across the country. In South Carolina a voter reported that even with election staff assistance his 4 attempts to vote straight Republican resulted in a straight Democratic ticket:

Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. He cleared the screen and tried again with the same result, he said. Then he asked for and received help from election staff.

“They pushed it twice and the same thing happened,” Laughinghouse said. “That was four times in a row. The fifth time they pushed it and the Republicans came up and I voted.” P. Christine Smith, Sun Journal

Las Vegas voters are discovering that local election officials have made their voting easier by having Harry Reid’s name pre-selected: Read more…
