JAMES SIMPSON: South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is perhaps the most irritating personification of the RINO label in the U.S. Senate. Despite the overwhelming evidence against manmade global warming and the irrefutable damage Cap and Trade legislation will do to our tottering economy, Graham has teamed with leftist Senator John Kerry to resurrect that legislation we all thought was going nowhere. Kerry himself recently noted that the recession has reduced greenhouse gas pollution by 6 percent. He wants to see another 14 percent reduction by 2020. Not one given to heavy intellectual lifting, we’ll assume Kerry overlooked the implications of that statement. But others have been explicit, suggesting a controlled recession is what’s needed to achieve that result.

Controlled recession! These people are lunatics defined.

But why would any Republican in his right mind join in with this lunacy? Apparently Graham is looking for more. Now, he has gone out on a limb again to join with Democrats in an attempt to resurrect illegal immigrant amnesty again. There is no doubt where the American people stand on amnesty. This is one of the most unpopular issues in the country, and it is hard to square the notion of a decorated JAG lawyer getting behind a movement that so clearly undermines the rule of law.

We all know why the Democrats’ want amnesty. It is the most promising of their many, despicable, underhanded, self-serving plans to pack voter roles with reliable democrat voters, constitution, rule of law, and the will of the people be damned. But why would Graham be willing to so blatantly stab his Party in the back, especially when the crucial midterm elections appear to be turning in the GOP’s favor?

Shortly after your election I wrote the following letter to you. In retrospect it appears that you ignored all my suggestions. In fact, it seems plain that you did exactly what I was afraid you would do. To drive home the point I have reproduced the letter in its entirety here. You seem relentlessly determined to persist in the most breathtakingly mindless, destructive policies ever pursued by a sitting president. JAMES SIMPSON: Forgive the obscene photo of Politically Incorrect show host Bill Maher, but it serves as a stark visual testimonial to the Left’s true nature. Every day, the Left shows us with their own actions that they are exactly what they accuse conservatives and tea partiers of being.

It is astonishing that they have the gall to accuse anyone of anything. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. But then we remember that the smear and the lie is all they have. As a post at Powerline relates, “It is liberals, not conservatives, who rely on ad hominem attacks, outrageous allegations and violent imagery.” The accusations of racism and threats of violence put forth by Congressional Democrats since Saturday are straight out of the Alinsky playbook. They probaby made the calls themselves.

Thank God for talk radio and the internet. Thanks to the New Media, they can no longer do these things with impunity. As Andrew Breitbart says, “The emperor has no clothes.” The Left is being exposed for the empty fraud of a movement it is, and as that happens, they are getting increasingly desperate. JAMES SIMPSON: There are not enough derogatory adjectives in the dictionary to describe Bart Stupak. This one, lone, “principled” Democrat caved today on the most nonsensical promise of all: that the President could actually write an executive order that trumps legislation. Astonishing! Has he ever read the Constitution? If he and the Democrats believe this will work, then they believe that the President is in fact a despot and can rule by decree. At this point, that assumption may not be far off the mark. If they don’t believe it, well…

But that latter bet is not far off, it turns out. Don’t know how we missed it, but this video (HT Hanen) from last fall reveals that Stupak was all set to vote for the bill all along, regardless the abortion provision. He played it hard to the end, but it appears now it was all theatrics. Watch him explain to a sparse but very disappointed audience last october how he would vote “his conscience” even if the healthcare bill excluded the abortion ban:

In another interview with Fox’s Megyn Kelly around the same time, Stupak was essentially calling the President and Democrat leaders liars. He was bluff and confident, claiming he and his “pro-life” Democrats could kill the bill in November. Kelly expressed surprise that he would challenge the President’s words, pointing out that Stupak was no “blue dog” Democrat, but presumably an Obama supporter, and had a 95 percent liberal rating from Americans for Democratic Action. Read more…

JAMES SIMPSON: The Associated Press headline screams: Lawmaker Won’t Press Charges in Spitting Incident,” and the headline is being reprinted everywhere on the Leftist blogosphere as well as in the mass media. But read past the headline. The very first sentence of the story says: “A congressman who was spat on by a protestor on Capitol Hill says he is declining to press charges, but turns out the Capitol Police say they made no arrests.” (Emphasis added.)

The Capitol Police “made no arrests.” The article goes on to quote the Police spokesman: “Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of the U.S. Capitol Police said in an e-mail later: ‘We did not make any arrests today.’” So did the incident even occur?

From the very beginning, this story has stunk. Anyone who has ever attended Tea Party rallies knows that this is a decent bunch of folks – ordinary, decent, hardworking Americans taking time away from work and families to come to Washington in the firm belief that we are being betrayed by our lawmakers. Just compare pictures of the aftermath of the 9-12 march with the aftermath of any other large Mall gathering. 9-12 protesters left the place spotless. These people would condemn on the spot anyone spitting or engaging in any other untoward behavior.

But nevermind, despite no evidence provided that the spitting incident even happened, the article repeats without question this same Congressman’s claim that racial epithets were shouted at him as he made his way to the Capitol: Read more…

About 10,000 people came to the Hill on Saturday for the Code Red rally according to those who attended. (I did not get down until later in the evening). Some friends attended a second, impromptu rally on the Capitol steps with a number of Congressmen for a few hours in the evening. Their advice for Sunday (today) was: show up! Members of Congress were shocked at the size of Saturday’s impromptu rally and it had an impact. They say do not let up. We should continue calling, faxing and e-mailing.

The schedule for today is as follows:

At 11 am there will be a church service in the Capitol Rotunda. This is the first church service held there in 100 years. House floor proceedings will begin at 1pm and the vote is at 2pm (as of now.)

I sat in the House gallery last night until almost midnight. A number of Republican members had stepped up to the podium and the last hour was taken by Louie Gohmert. He was clearly tired but made a last minute impassioned plea to the Democrats to forego this destructive legislation.

JAMES SIMPSON: Never in the field of American politics has so much cowardice, hypocrisy and criminal fraud existed among the entire Congressional delegation of one Party. Never! News just arrived that House Democrats have voted in favor of the “Slaughter Rule” which they will use to “deem” the objectionable Senate healthcare bill passed without any of them having to actually vote on it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made clear her reason for wanting to use this mechanism a couple of days ago when she said: “I like it, because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.” Incredible. You want to bypass the democratic process, just make up a rule!

How mind bogglingly corrupt and arrogant can a person be? Each time you think Pelosi can sink no further, she effortlessly pulls it off. This has even shocked some liberals. For example, CNN’s Jack Cafferty called Pelosi “beyond sleazy” for endorsing the Slaughter Rule, saying “this reeks!” and labeling the process “simply unbelievable.” Read more…
