This time of year we reminisce about time passing and a new year approaching. It’s only natural that our minds turn to this great video of candidate Obama promising openness and transparency in government. Would Obama have said anything to get elected? When you finish watching compare this to Governor Chris Christie’s video here.
MOSCOW: Russia rejoiced today as the US Senate abandoned its duty to protect the interests of the United States by ratifying the New START Treaty:
“We have to give credit to Barack Obama and his team, who exerted such momentous efforts to ensure START ratification in the Senate. Along with Democrat senators, they managed to secure its inclusion in the agenda of the so-called “lame duck session”. And still, the fate of the document was far from certain just a few days ago. Amid the consequent fierce debate, the Republicans started to issue amendments, which could have virtually buried the treaty. Among them was the proposal to withdraw a paragraph concerning links between strategic offensive and defensive weapons. The Voice of Russia
For the first time in US history this lame duck session of Congress ratified a major international treaty. US citizens have overwhelmingly rejected the authority of this Congress in the last election, they should have no authority to bind the US into any treaty, much less one of this magnitude. Proponents say the treaty will make the world a safer place. We disagree. Here are the basic problems in a nutshell:
Treaty limits US ability to research and deploy defensive weapons
US has already won the Arms race, we have no need to negotiate with the Russians
Treaty elevates Russia to superpower status
Treaty does not address Russia’s tactical nuclear weapon superiorty, 10x that of US
Verification procedures inadequate
Treaty exposes Europe to Russian and Iranian threats
Treaty outlaws protection against rogue state missiles, the real 21st century threat
Obama’s letter to the Senate regarding the continued viability of missile defense has as much enforceability as a letter from your grandmother. We understand Russia’s interest in passage of this treaty. After all, the development of an effective nuclear shield would undermine its sales of nuclear materials and technology to Iran. Russia applauded Obama’s cancellation of the Poland’s missile shield shortly after taking office.
If you think you are safer now with the Republicans surge in the last election, just look at this list of Republican defectors:
Ten of the 13 Republican senators who voted yes will be back next year: Lamar Alexander, Scott Brown, Thad Cochran, Susan Collins, Bob Corker, Johnny Isakson, Mike Johanns, Richard Lugar, Lisa Murkowski and Olympia Snowe. Washington Post
The question you should be asking yourself is, ”Why did 71 Senators endorse a treaty that prevents the US from developing a missile shield that would render ballistic nuclear weapons useless?” Find the answer to that question and you probably won’t like the answer.
WASHINGTON: The FCC seized the Internet today under the guise of “Net Neutrality.” The FCC’s attempt to seize the Internet in 2005 was struck down in 2008, and so now they are back at it again. The NIP has repeatedly warned about this seizure of a free and open conduit of information. We understand it is a complicated issue, but what it boils down to is that 3 democrats just seized the Internet today.
As always the reports and regulations are dumped on the American public after 11 PM and voted on within hours to prevent Americans from learning the truth. Of course, this is done during Christmas week when folks do not have time to check the news. You won’t have to worry about checking the news in the future, because under the hands of the FCC all news channels will eventually be controlled by the government. Someday your grandchildren, struggling to pay off our debt to the Chinese will ask you, “Where were you grandpa when our rights to free speech were stolen? Why didn’t you do something?”
Listen to FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell explain what just happened:
WASHINGTON: Today the National Institute of Prevarication officially opened nominations for the 2010 Prevaricator of the Year™. Nominations will remain open until midnight December 31st. The official results will be announced sometime in January 2011.
Nominations are open to anyone, and you can nominate yours truly, or yourself if you wish. Multiple nominations for the same person (from different sources) will carry weight in determining final results. You can nominate your favorite prevaricator by leaving a comment on this post with his or her name. To advance your nomination it would be helpful in describing your nominee’s contribution to the field of prevarication, citing sources where possible.
News of this award has already leaked and we have heard from many who want to be named Prevaricator of the Year™ for previous years. So we will also accept nominations for Posthumorous Prevaricator of the Year™. If you nominate someone for a Posthumorous award, be sure to include the year.
Once awards have been announced for a particular year, all decisions are final.
WARSAW, POLAND: Today the Wall Street Journal revealed (below) that as recently as this spring Russia has been deploying tactical nuclear weapons on the borders of our NATO allies. To understand the issues at stake we need to examine some background.
NATO was formed after WWII primarily as a defense against the Soviets and was proven effective during the cold war, leading to the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union. The United States is the primary funder of NATO and is the most influential member of the alliance. For a deterrent against nuclear deployment NATO relied on the principle of mutually assured destruction, which was effective in preventing nuclear strikes for over 50 years.
Now we have a new game, with Russia and Islamic rogue states in play. The proliferation of nuclear weapons renders the mutually assured destruction defense inoperative. What is required is a new European missile defense system to protect against Russia, Iran and others. In 2007 the US started formal negotiations with Poland and the Czech Republic to construct the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense System to protect against Soviet and Islamic threats. This was the beginning of a new strategy to permanently protect the free countries in Europe from domination and destruction.
Candidate Obama gave lip-service to protecting Europe with this new defense shield:
His position is as it was throughout the campaign, that he supports deploying a missile defence system when the technology is proved to be workable. Denis McDonough, Foreign policy adviser to Mr Obama BBC News
But just 4 days after his election he revealed that Obama was lying during the campaign on this issue:
Obama denies Poland missile vow. US President-elect Barack Obama has not given a commitment to go ahead with plans to build part of a US missile defence system in Poland, an aide says. BBC News, November 8, 2008.
SAN DIEGO: As reported by the San Diego Union Tribune, on Saturday an American Airlines passenger, John Tyner, was “simultaneously thrown out of San Diego International Airport on Saturday morning for refusing to submit to a security check and threatened with a lawsuit and a $10,000 fine if he left.” What makes this case interesting is that the entire incident was recorded by Mr. Tyner. You can read his first hand account as well as listen to the entire proceeding. Before he went through security he took the precaution of turning on his cell phone recorder.
Like many Americans Tyner objects to the full body scan, citing health concerns of low level radiation as well as the invasion of privacy. Tyner checked the airport web site prior to checking in, and the web site listed only metal scanners. When he arrived he lined up to be scanned conventionally but was herded into one of the full body scanners omitted from the web site description.
John Tyner Stands Up to TSA Jackboots
When he requested to get in line for the metal scanner his request was refused and told he would receive a intrusive full body pat down if he did not submit to the full scan. When he asked the guard not to touch his genitals his request was rudely denied, and security was escalated.
What followed can only best be described by Tyner himself. Read, watch and listen to his full account here. It’s time for more Americans to stand up this TSA nonsense just like John Tyner did. The main reason the TSA is doing full body scans of all Americans has nothing to do with security. It has everything to do with the lucrative contracts awarded to industries that are supporting the TSA and big Sister in their invasive desire to control Americans. We should be the ones being protected, not harrassed.
Just this morning we received the following video released today for Veteran’s Day from one of our loyal readers. It is a short one minute clip of citizens in Cincinnati reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. It is touching to view the faces of men who were prisoners of war during WWII and the Korean war saluting the flag with their wives while reciting the Pledge. Watching them and other Cincinnatians pledging their allegiance reminds us what this day is about.
